New Year, New Skin: Part 2

Last week, our artist April C (a makeup artist, esthetician and facialist at Bliss Spa) shared her favorite tips for exfoliating in the winter. This week, she tells us ways to keep skin hydrated in the winter – and exactly what to use to get there.

CLEANSERS

Q: Should I change my cleanser in the winter?

April: One thing we don’t realize is that we may need a non-foaming cleanser in the winter. This depends on skin type and condition of course, but it’s nice to always have one on hand to switch between that and a foaming cleanser when you feel tight or dry. FEELING SQUEAKY CLEAN IS NOT ALWAYS A GOOD THING! Trust me a creamy or milky cleanser is still cleansing, it just doesn’t remove oil that is necessary.

SERUMS

Q: What is a serum?

April: Serums have the smallest molecules of any skincare product, so they get deep into the skin. When applied under a moisturizer or mask it is an instant mini facial. You are now locking in all that goodness!!! Serums are more expensive, but that’s because they really pack a big punch. It is worth the money!

OILS

Q: How do I use oils?

April: Dryness occurs when there is a lack of oil in the skin. I love to put oils on right after my toner, when my skin is damp. It soaks in quicker, deeper, and leaves a less oily feel on the skin. If you are applying makeup during the day, I would recommend using your oil at night
